Important information for those who are certified 

 

 

AFTER PASSING THE PTCB EXAM YOU ARE REQUIRED

  • To complete 20 hours of continuing education (CE courses) to remain certified. One of the 20 hours is required to be about pharmacy law. You must earn all your CE hours within the 2 year certification period, on or before your expiration date. For example> Passed exam on (April 2, 2011) expiration date is on (March 31, 2013) you will need to complete your 20 hrs of CE within the year 2011-2013. No CE hours are allowed before passing the PTCB exam. Any extra hours are not allowed to be carried over your next recertification period.
  • Certification is renewed every 2 years with a $40 fee if you apply online and a $65 fee if you apply through mail, you will also need to complete 20 hours of CE again, but you won't need to take the PTCB exam ever again.

  • If you did not get a chance to renew your certification before your expiration date then you are no longer a CPhT. To renew after expiration date and regain your CPhT status, you would have to apply for reinstatement online or mail with a $80 fee. Importantly candidates who are eligible would have to complete 20 hours of CE including 2 hours of pharmacy law instead within a year of your new expiration date.

Earn a maximum of 10hrs of CE at your pharmacy workplace

You may earn a maximum ten of the twenty hours at your workplace under the direct supervision of the pharmacist(s). However, these credits may not be earned by working ten hours at your regular duties. You should arrange with your supervising pharmacist for the completion of specially assigned in-service projects or training. These assignments should be selected with your individual needs in mind and may include computer training, inventory control, IV admixtures, videos, self-study articles from professional pharmacy journals, etc. **Form is provided below for supervising pharmacist to keep record of hrs**

Earn CE hours through college

You may use one college course during your two-year certification period. The college course must be in  Life Science (Chemistry, Biology, Anatomy, etc.) or Math, and counts as 15 hours of CE.
